These are the top 5 website mistakes you might be making right now!

Did you know that your website could be spooking potential customers away? In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for business success. However, many entrepreneurs make common mistakes on their websites that can be detrimental to their brand. From stock photos to missing legal pages, these mistakes can give your website a haunted and unprofessional appearance. But don’t fear, in this article, we’ll discuss the top 5 website mistakes to avoid and how to improve your online presence now.

1. Only using stock photos and no photos of you?! 😱

This is frightening because it disconnects you from your audience. People want to connect with the real you, not just generic images. Even a candid iPhone photo adds personality and authenticity to your brand.

2. Not having a call to action on your website! 😬

Yikes! Making it difficult for potential customers to engage with you is a missed opportunity. Remember, we’re in business to sell products or services. Ensure it’s crystal clear how visitors can take the next step with you.

3. LONGGGGG paragraphs. 😵

Oh, the horror! Ever landed on a website and felt like you were drowning in text? We’ve all been there. Your website should be easy to skim. Use subheadings, bullet points, and paragraph breaks to make it reader-friendly.

4. Forgetting to update your favicon. 😱

A favicon is that tiny icon that appears in your browser tab next to the page title. If you’re using Squarespace and haven’t updated it to your own custom favicon, it’s a dead giveaway that your website might be new or lacking some TLC. Yikes indeed!

5. Missing Your Legal Pages! 📜

Did you know that you should have three essential legal pages on your website? Thanks to insights from my friend, Lauren Bercuson of LB Legal Creative, here’s what you need to know:

  • Privacy Policy: You are legally required to inform your website visitors about how your company uses their data. Your Privacy Policy is where you disclose this information, including how you collect, store, and use customer data. While the specifics may vary depending on your business type and location, having a privacy policy is an absolute must!
  • Terms of Use: As a business owner, you also need to protect yourself. Your terms of use outline the rules for anyone who visits or uses your website. This is where you safeguard your content and intellectual property, shield yourself from liability, prohibit malicious user activity, and establish the governing law in case of legal action.
  • Disclaimer: Disclaimers are crucial for shielding yourself from liability, especially when you provide advice on your website. They make it clear that you’re not responsible for how someone uses or interprets your content. Whether you’re a doctor or an activities blogger, disclaimers let visitors know you’re not liable for any damages resulting from information obtained from your website.

Let’s avoid these spooky website blunders and keep your online presence top-notch. If you’re not sure how to tackle any of these issues, don’t hesitate to reach out for guidance. Your website should be a treat, not a trick!
