Let’s be honest, when you’re building a business, there’s a lot to learn. And when people start throwing around words like “favicon” or “brand guidelines,” it’s easy to feel lost.
So I made you a simple glossary: 10 basic branding and website terms every entrepreneur should know (without needing to Google every five seconds).
Whether you’re DIY-ing or working with a designer, these will help you feel confident and in control.
More than just a logo.
Your brand is the feeling people get when they interact with your business. It’s your vibe, your voice, your values, and the overall experience you give.
Also known as “breathing room” on your site.
It’s the empty space around your text and images and it’s a good thing! White space helps your website feel clean, modern, and easy to read.
How your brand sounds when it “talks.”
Is it fun and casual? Calm and nurturing? Bold and confident? Your voice should match your personality and connect with your audience.
A simple layout of your website before it’s designed.
Think of it like a blueprint for your site it shows what content goes where, without the colors or fancy fonts yet.
That tiny icon that shows up on your browser tab.
(Yes, that little detail matters, it’s part of your brand presence too!)
The main page of your website.
It should clearly explain who you are, what you do, and how people can work with you—in less than 10 seconds.
The clickable list at the top of your website.
Helps visitors move around easily. Tip: Keep it simple and clear (Home, About, Services, Contact).
A prompt that tells people what to do next.
Examples: “Book a call,” “Get the guide,” or “Shop now.” Without a CTA, people don’t know where to go!
Your website should look good on any device desktop, tablet, or phone.
That’s responsive design, and it’s a must in 2025.
A simple PDF or file that outlines your brand visuals.
It includes your logo, colors, fonts, and how to use them consistently across everything you do (social, print, website, etc).
